THE HARLEY OF HOLIES: ANOTHER PAPAL H-D

HOG Malta Chapter at Paqpaqli ghall-Istrina 2014

The Harley-Davidson FLSTC 103 Heritage Softail Classic signed by one Pope, blessed by two and signed by Willie G. Davidson (grandson of co-founder Davidson) is being auctioned off to raise money for those in need.

Last year, a 2013 Harley-Davidson 1,585CC FXDC Dyna Super Glide Custom that was formerly presented to Pope Francis, was sold in 2014 by Bonhams at its Grand Palais auction for €241,500 – roughly 20 times its original value, becoming the 19th most valuable motorcycle ever sold at auction.

In 2013, to commemorate the 110th anniversary of Harley-Davidson, two fuel tanks were presented to the Pope Benedict XVI. The fuel tanks were then sent back to the US headquarters to be fitted to their respective motorcycles, with the Papal signature, and presented to Pope Benedict’s successor in Rome last year.

Proceeds from the sale of this bike being held on the 5th February will go to a Polish organisation, Friendly World Association, that provides support to those in need.  The Heritage Softail Classic will go under the hammer with the starting bid estimated between €15,000 and €25,000.  However the odds are that the bike will sell for a lot more, maybe even more than last year’s bike given its association with two Popes.
